Thomas Barksdale Allen Jr., 67, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in a Birmingham, Ala., hospital.
Visitation will be held today, Dec. 6, 2007, at Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Birmingham from 4-6 p.m. CST with services beginning at 6 p.m. The Rev. Larry Horne will officiate.
Mr. Allen then will be taken to the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home in Rossville, where the family will receive friends Friday from noon-1 :30 p.m. EST.

Armelia Chapman
Armelia B. Chapman, 94, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2007, in a local healthcare facility.
She was a member of Quinn Chapel Church where she was very active in their clubs and organizations. She and her husband operated Chapman’s Cleaners on East Third Street, which was one of the first black businesses in Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris E. Chapman Jr.; son, Leonard Calvin Chapman.

Otto Crump Jr.
Otto Crump Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.
Survived by loving wife, Patricia ; sisters, Betty (Larry), Edwina (Charles); children, Suzy (Karl), Otto III (Madeline) and Lynn Ann. He was the loving grandfather of Otto Crump IV.
Mary Harris
Mary Dobson Harris, 86, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.
Mary was born in Chattanooga. She moved from Erath, La., back to Chattanooga, in 1982.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Victor A. Harris Sr.
Mary is survived by her sister Marie M. Plemons, of Roswell, N.M.; and her five children and spouses, Victor A. and Amy Harris Jr., of Chattanooga, Marshall L. and Sandra Harris, of Prairieville, La., Evelyn L. Wiggins, of Charleston, S.C., William E. and Deanna Harris, of Waynesboro, Pa., and M. Margaret and James Romero, of New Iberia, La. Mary is also survived by her 20 grandchildren ; 34 great-grandchildren ; and three great–great-grandchildren. She was beloved by many and will be truly missed.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating.
Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 6, 2007, at the North Chapel.

Aleen Hayes
Aleen L. Hayes, 89, of Spring City, Tenn., formerly of East Ridge, died Monday, Dec. 3. 2007, in an area health care facility.
Mrs. Hayes was a nurse’s aide for Erlanger Hospital for many years and was a member of Greenslake Road Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Arthur Lawrence and Thomas Hayes.
She is survived by two stepchildren ; foster brother, J.D. Stoner, Dunnellon, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; several cousins including Dorothy Whitmire, Spring City, Van Whitmire, Ooltewah.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Minister Jim Lewis officiating.
Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Clark Houck Sr.
Clark Houck Sr., 91, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, after a short illness.
He was born on March 25, 1916 in the Baldwin Community near West Jefferson, N.C., where he lived most of his early life. He attended high school in West Jefferson, graduating number one in his class at age 15. In 1953, he moved to Chattanooga to accept an executive position with Skyland International Corp. (makers of Buster Brown children’s clothes) where he worked until his retirement in 1971.
An avid traveler, Clark and his wife, Ruth, visited many countries in addition to all 50 states during their retirement. Clark enjoyed photography, music, telling wonderful jokes and anecdotes and playing with his grandsons. Though he had many successes in his professional and family life, he never forgot his humble childhood growing up in the North Carolina hill country. Clark and Ruth were members of Oakwood Baptist Church for almost 50 years.
Clark was preceded in death by his father, Walter Lee Houck; mother, Sara Eveline Campbell Houck, of West Jefferson; and daughter, Nora Evelyn Houck.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruth Skaggs Houck; children, Clark “Skip” Houck Jr. and Tisa Morgan Houck, of Chattanooga, Margaret Ann Houck Donnelly and Fred Donnelly, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; grandsons, Jason M. and Yvette Wells Houck, of Winter Park, Fla., and Lee C. Houck, of Long Island City, N.Y.; greatgrandsons, Pryce and Graden Houck, of Winter Park, Fla.; several cousins and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Oakwood Baptist Church, Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 6, 2007, with the Rev. Ken Clark officiating, followed immediately by a graveside service at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East, on Shallowford Road.

Joyce Johnson
Joyce LaRue Cross Johnson, 75, of Ooltewah, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at her residence.
She was born April 3, 1932, and was a lifelong resident of Ooltewah.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Joyce worked for American Uniform for 26 years and retired as coowner of Superior Catering Service. She was a guardian angel to everyone and cared for others no matter what they needed. Her dedication to her family was total and complete. She was loved by everyone who met her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many people and she will be dearly missed by so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Cross and Lillie Belle Eldridge Cross; sisters, Ruby Finger, Muriel Pendergrass, Thelda Harrill, Lorraine Moore, Mildred Brown; brothers, T.J., Hadden, Laymon and Duell Cross.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond “Bud” Johnson; daughter, Lynda (Dean) Cofer; son, Jackie (Darlene ) Johnson, all of Ooltewah; sister, Lelia Woodruff, of Sweetwater; brother, Ted “DeWillis” Cross, of Lima, Ohio; grandsons, Dino Cofer, Jason Johnson ; granddaughters, DeWalla Cofer, Jamie Johnson, Joyce Ann Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Kasun, Kaiden, Jasa and Landon; special niece, Joy Bowers; and all her very special family members.

W.H. Millholland
W.H. “Howard” Millholland, 86, of East Ridge, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2007, at a local hospital.
He was a World War II veteran. He was originally from McCaysville, Ga., and the son of Sherman and Arvie Millholland.
Howard was preceded in death by his best friend and wife of 58 years, Helen; and son-in-law, Roger Hawkins, of Rossville. Also, several siblings predeceased him.
He is survived by his loving children, Randy “BJ” (Geneva), of Soddy-Daisy, Danny (Lydia), of Maryville; and daughter, Vicki Hawkins, of Rossville. He leaves to cherish his memory, his grandsons, Randy, Jamie (Brittnee), Casey, Zack (Bethany), Chad (Sarah) Millholland, Paul Scates; and granddaughter, Christa Goode (Dwayne). He is also survived by hishis great-grandchildren,great - grandchildren greatgrandchildren, Kayla, Jennifer, Randy Jr, Faith and Grace Millholland and “His little Angel” Breckyn and Brady Goode. He is also survived by brother, James “Hayden” Millholland; and sister, Margie Henson, both of Dalton.
What a legacy he leaves to those of us who loved him so much. He was what wonderful and loving Dads are made of. We love you, Dad.

Harry N. Stanton, 88, of Signal Mountain, departed from this good earth to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Washington, Pa.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen Stanton, of Signal Mountain; daughters Cheryl Pelletier, of Bangor, Maine, and Deborah Stanton Gracia, of Signal Mountain; son-in-law, Joe Gracia, of Signal Mountain; grandchildren Nicole Pelletier, of Los Angeles Calif., Eric Pelletier, of Bangor, Maine, and Ali and Zoe Gracia, of Signal Mountain; and his beloved dogs, Mac and Bo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Georgia Giannopoulos; sister, Bessie Zambelas ; and brother, Peter Stanton.
Harry was a cadet in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He went on to found Stanton Systems and Electric Heating and Cooling Corp. in 1954 in his hometown Washington, Pa., and retired at the age of 82. Harry was a pioneer in electric heating and cooling in Pennsylvania.
Harry loved his family, his work, golf and sports. He never met a stranger; everyone with whom he came in contact always felt like they made a friend. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Lone Pine Country Club. He was an avid golfer, playing in numerous charity tournaments. He coached the youth basketball team at Trinity Episcopal Church, and was a national officer of the Cult Awareness Network from 1984 to 1986. He was a member of the Pete Stanton Orchestra, written up in Down Beat Magazine as “one of the hottest up-and-coming jazz bands in the country.”
He always had a strong Christian faith which grew when he moved to Tennessee with his wife in 2001. He became a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, deeply enjoying the pastoral staff and the Wednesday Men’s Study Group. Our father loved life and was grateful for the opportunities the good Lord gave him throughout his life. He shared the Good News with everyone he met, and publicly gave his personal testimony to his friends at the Manorhouse Assisted Living facility.

David Thornton
David Leason Thornton, 50, of Crystal River, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007.
He was the son of James Clark and Alice Louise Waters Thornton Jr., both deceased.
He came to the Crystal River area 23 years ago from his native Soddy-Daisy.
Mr. Thornton was a master marine mechanic and an electrical engineer.
He enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman.
He was a Christian.

Janice Welburn
Janice Bryant Welburn, 72, of Soddy-Daisy and formerly of Jackson, Miss., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of Dallas Bay Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cyndi; three brothers; and one sister, all of Mississippi.

Lloyd Whitener
Lloyd D. Whitener, 62, of Columbus, Ga., Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, died at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson.
Mr. Whitener was born Oct. 4, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio, son of Harold Lloyd Whitener and the late Nancy Lee Whitener. He was a landscaper and contractor by trade and owned and operated North Georgia Landscaping. Mr. Whitener was raised and lived in the Chattanooga area for many years before moving to Columbus. He enjoyed attending Calvary Temple Assembly of God with his family, family outings, hunting and entertaining extended family. His wisdom, humor, gentle spirit and presence will be missed deeply by his family and friends; however, he will live on in our hearts.
Mr. Whitener was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Lee Whitener; two brothers, Gennis Bach and Bill Bach.
Survivors include his dad, H.L. JASPER — Willie Clyde Vann Harris, 97, a lifelong resident died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.
The daughter of the late Charles Henry Vann II and Sallie Tittle Vann, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Herbert Harris; a son, John Herbert Harris Jr.; and two brothers, Jack and Charles Vann.
Mrs. Harris was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, the Jasper Garden Club, the United Methodist Women, and Duplicate Bridge Group.
Recognized as a child prodigy, she was one of the original students at Cadek Conservatory, having been given the violin she used throughout her life by Dean Cadek. She taught music for many years in the Marion County school system and had played the violin in the Chattanooga Symphony, at her church, at Rivermont Nursing Home, and for countless weddings and graduation ceremonies.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles Dennis (Martha) Harris of Signal Mountain; daughter, Marilyn Quirk, of Jasper; grandchildren, Dennis (Joy) Harris, Justin Harris, Blake Harris, Austin Harris, Adam (Cheryl) Quirk and Cohn (Heather) Quirk; great-grandchildren, Avery and Ryan Quirk; sisters, Anna Lillian Vann Runt, of Nashville. Sally Vann Pyle, of Miami, Fla.; brother, James Carter Vann, of St. Augustine, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, from 9:30 until 11 a.m. CST at McKendree United Methodist Church in Jasper, with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Meg Taylor and the Rev. David Harr officiating.

Georgia Yon
KNOXVILLE — Georgia Claire Lovell Yon, 79, of South Knoxville, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, after a brief but spirited battle with lung cancer.
Preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Gladys Lovell; husband, Veo S. Yon; and son, Peter V. Yon.
She was a graduate of ETSU and was an elementary school teacher for over 40 years. Claire retired after 20 years at Mt. Olive Elementary School. She was a delegate to The National NEA Convention for many years and received one of the 1991 Knoxville BEST awards. Claire was a member and past president of KCEA and member of TEA She was a member of Mt. Vista Garden Club, Timberlake Garden Club and a former president of Knox County Counsel of Garden Clubs. Claire was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School class. She enjoyed her bridge club, the Retired Teachers Association, and her Bible study class and was a former member of the Sweet Adelines and the Knoxville Seniors’ Choral Group. Claire was an energetic and progressive educator and affected the lives of countless children. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Survivors include, daughter, Jane Anne Yon; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lovell and Robert John Sinko; grandchildren, John and wife Anne, Matthew, Georgia and Lydia Sinko; sister, Janice Brown; brother, Howard and wife, Shelia Lovell; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

RINGGOLD — Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 74, departed this life Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.
She was born in Westside, Ga., to the late Charles Henry and Gussie Morgan Walston, and she was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Tittle; brothers, Claude and Snooks Walston; daughter, Patricia Kay Veal.
Mary was a member of Middle Cross Baptist Church in Hixson.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Renee and Larry Nunley, of Harrison, Randy and Edna Veal, of Mowbray Mountain, Bonnie and Donnie Gitgood, of Ringgold, Gene and JoAnn Veal, of Hixson; brother, Clyde Walston, of East Ridge; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren ; one great-great-grandchild;great - great - grandchild greatgreat-grandchild ; her loving dog, Jake; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. today, Dec. 6, 2007, in the chapel with the Rev. Gary Shirley and the Rev. Jim Chandler officiating.

RINGGOLD — Leila P. Stewart, 79, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007.
She was born May 6, 1928, in Cleveland, Ga. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Ringgold United Methodist Church and a member of the FOB Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Marion H. Stewart; three sons and spouses, Robert W. and Joyce Stewart, Knoxville, Donald R. and Olivia Stewart, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Gary A. and Gerri Stewart, Flintstone; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Jimmy Traylor
ROSSVILLE — Jimmy Hugh Traylor, 68, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.
He had lived in the Rossville area for most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He had retired from Permna Color Corporation as plant superintendent in 1982 after more than 20 years of service. Mr. Traylor loved going to flea markets and talking with his friends on his CB Radio who called him “Little Daddy.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Lula Mae Traylor ; sister, Opal Traylor and two brothers, Elmer Dee and Milford Traylor.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Rachel Traylor, of Rossville ; son and his girlfriend, Glenn Traylor and Brandi Johnston, of Rossville; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and John Swope, of Chattanooga ; brother, Arlon Traylor, of Adairsville, Ga.; sisters, Janell Reeves and Thelma Traylor, both of Chattanooga ; two grandchildren, Stephanie Hampton, of Chickamauga, Ga., and Steven Hampton, of Chattanooga; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Atwood, of Chickamauga; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MARIETTA — Elizabeth Kelley Wade, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.
Mrs. Wade taught Sunday school most of her adult life at churches where she was a member in Chattanooga, Nashville and the Atlanta area, most recently at Sandy Plains Baptist Church.
Born in Calhoun, Tenn., she graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at the age of 52 and began her life-long ambition as a teacher, first at Chattanooga High School and later at Notre Dame High School, also in Chattanooga.
Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Cowan Wade.
She is survived by two daughters, Mickie (Mrs. Bob) Maddux, of Marietta, and Jane (Mrs. Ray) George, of Hermitage Tenn.; a brother, George Clifton Kelley, of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren, Patrick Kelly, of Louisville, Ky., Sharon Kelly, of Hermitage, Tony Maddux, of San Francisco and Lisa (Mrs. Bob) LeMoine, of Suwanee, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; and one great-grandson, Jacob Steele LeMoine, of Suwanee.
A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hermitage Memorial Gardens in Hermitage Tenn.
